Course Memo
Although pastoral care in the United States has traditionally focused on the care of individuals, pastoral theologians recognize and pay attention to the cultural and systemic dimensions of care. Ministry entails a commitment to the care of both persons and worlds. Based on pastoral care literature and interdisciplinary readings, this course invites participants to reflect on the systemic dimensions of the care of souls. The course emphasizes the realities, concerns, and contributions of oppressed peoples, including peoples of color and LGBTQ+ communities.
In spring 2023 term the course meets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during reading week on the UPSem Richmond campus: February 23, 24, and 25.
